23rd Meeting March 30, 2010 Venus Pancake House

Members present: Mike King. Adam Moore, Keith Powell, John Nolan, Sandy Nolan, Petra Darby, Ty Darby, John Richardson, Stimey Mathis

New Recruits: Corey Benton, Jessie Byrd, Cindy Byrd

I. Call to order: Mike King called meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

II. Introduction and discussion of new recruits
New recruits need to attend 3 events to be voted on for membership. An event was defined as any 23rd activity where period dress is required.

III. Financial report
Keith Powell noted that school day funds needed to be separated from the total amount of $,------ which left a total of $-------
Artillery bounty was discussed in reference to Ken Moore’s letter requesting increase in bounty. After discussion and a vote, motion was carried unanimously to stay at $500 we had previously agreed on. (A check was mailed to Ken Moore in the amount of $500.)
School money is to be kept separate from general fund in a separate account. Keith Powell made motion that school money goes in CD for the scholarship program. Adam Moore second, motion carried.

IV. Unit roster (Current pd members and solution)
After group discussion, decision was made that fees for the previous year would be waived do to lack of documentation. Adam Moore made the motion to waive the 2009-2010 dues and start fresh. Second by George Whitton, Jr, motion carried.


V. Family membership
Petra Darby made motion to develop a family membership. Soldier’s dues cover the family unit, with members who are of age the right to vote. Keith Powell seconded the motion, the motion carried.

VI. Socastee living history May 13, 14.
John Nolan has a living history scheduled at Socastee High School. Members will depict camp life; discuss period weapons, and ladies fashion. A request for participants was made.

VII. Open discussion
Hemingway shag festival is April 23-24, 2010. $500 donation will be made. Maximum effort would be appreciated.
Jay Greg will run SCO again in February 2011 to peek interest in the Skirmish at Gamble’s Hotel.
Due to the excellent turnout of cavalry, Jessie Byrd made it known that he had hay available for next year’s event.
Garfield brought up possibility of living history at Mansfield plantation. Further discussion is needed.
Leo Lazano’s biopsy was brought up, along with a prayer request for a speedy recovery.
Mike King challenged all members to find a $100 sponsor for a business size ad in our next year’s event program. Any member receiving a $100 sponsor will have their 23rd dues waived for a one year period.


VIII. Closing
Motion was made by George Whitton, Jr to close meeting at 9 pm.
