I received a note from a gentleman in Florida. It seems that our site provided him with a bit of information about one of his family that was part of Company I of the 23rd. Here's his note:

Quote:
My name is David Stark and I found your web site 23rdsc.com and want to say thanks for the information that you site has provided my wife and I. Please let me explain … I have been doing genealogical research on both the Stark and Cantey families for years and have found a great deal of information but have now been going back to “fill in the holes” that are missing. Well your site has provided a significant one.

My wife’s 4th great grandfather was W. J. R. Cantey (William James Ransom Cantey) who, according to all records that I was able to find, died around April 1, 1865. When I found your web site the whole thing appeared to come together and it seems that he was a 4th Serge ant with the Sprott Guards and lost his life at the battle of Five Forks. It also appears that he had his two sons, both privates, serving in the Sprott Guards at the same time T. R. (Thomas Robert) and M. S. (Morgan Sabb) Cantey.

The reason I’m writing this email is to try and find out more about the 23rd SC Infantry and about the various battles that they were involved in. Unfortunately we live in Florida and it is difficult at best to get to South Carolina to explore so any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks

David and MaryBeth Stark

Does someone have the book, "SKETCH OF COMPANY K., 23RD SOUTH CAROLINA VOLUNTEERS IN THE CIVIL WAR,FROM 1862-1865" by Wellburn Andrews? It seems like there was a copy owned by one of the guys that I remember seeing several years ago. I'd like to read it again if we can find it.
