The 23rd's scholarship project was thought up last year. I don't remember who came up with the idea, but it was immediately embraced by many of the members.
The award was a thousand dollars, 500.00 for each semester. It was awarded to a student at Francis Marion University. The requirement was that the student was entering their senior year as a history major.
The first award was made to Erin Gandy, shown here third from the left.
I've been told how enthusiastically it was received. In the picture are 23rd members; Hal Baldwin, Archie Kennedy and Mike King.
